Some adventures start with a perfect plan. This one started with a three-hour drive inland, 34°C heat, and no phone signal. We left the coast behind and headed into the Catalan wilderness. By midday we’d walked through abandoned villages, swum in the turquoise pool at las finisteras, and watched the stars take over the night sky.
Ancient stone ruins stand against a clear sky in a dry grass landscape.
Turquoise lake surrounded by steep cliffs and dense forest in a mountainous landscape.
Towering limestone cliffs rising above turquoise waters with dramatic rock formations.
Rocky outcrops overlooking a serene lake with mountains in the distance.

The real story began on Day 2.

15km trekking through rugged terrain, followed by 15km kayaking against the current through the Congost de Mont-rebei. The gorge is a natural spectacle, sheer cliffs, water that shifts from emerald to deep blue, and a silence that feels ancient. The wind picked up, throwing small waves across the water, adding movement and drama to the scene.

This was the perfect place to put my expedition photography and filmmaking kit to work. I shot on the Sony A7IV, paired with the GM II lens trio:

  • 16–35mm – my secret weapon for immersive canyon landscapes.
  • 24–70mm – the reliable all-rounder for portraits, mid-range action, and those quiet moments at rest stops.
  • 70–200mm – for compressing the scale of the cliffs and capturing kayaks in the distance.

VND filter let me adapt quickly to shifting light, while a CPL filter cut glare on the water. A GoPro captured behind-the-scenes footage, adding that immersive first-person angle brands love.

Every stroke of the paddle revealed something new, hidden inlets, sunlit rock faces, and fleeting wildlife encounters. We stopped to photograph, swim and connect. By the end of the day, we’d covered the full length of the gorge, battling the wind but capturing it all in vivid, cinematic detail.

For outdoor brands and expedition teams, this is where my work thrives: on location, in the elements, capturing real moments with real people - friends, and adventuring through sports in nature.
